Underwire is delighted to present a day for freelancing film professionals to receive practical and career focused advice from experts and practitioners.

Speakers include Entertainment Lawyer Hayley Brady, Producer Loran Dunn, Production Accountant Lucy Drake, Mentoring Scheme Producer Nicola Lees, and Director Nicola Quilter. Sessions will focus on:

  • Becoming a Brand - building your website, identifying your niche assets, maintaining online portfolio, pitching yourself and projects with Katie McCullough from Festival Formula
  • Contracts, Legalities and Rights - advice on negotiating, knowing what to check for and the questions to be asking with Entertainment Lawyer Hayley Brady
  • Managing Finances - completing tax returns, crowd-funding projects, self-employment challenges with Production Accountant Lucy Drake
  • Time Management – organising workloads, ensuring efficiency, what is worth investing “free” time in, and what is not?, with Shooting People’s Kelie Petterssen, Freelance Director Ben Aston, and Freelance Producers Loran Dunn and Douglas Cox
  • Mentoring Opportunities – what is available and how can it be accessed?, with Nicola Lees from WFTV (UK)
  • Interview and networking techniques – confidence-building strategies, making lasting industry connections.

The day is designed for filmmakers and industry professionals working across the industry that have been freelancing for less than five years and have made at least one short film. The event is open to both female and male freelancers.

The day runs from 9am to 5pm, followed by informal networking.
