We were very excited to receive a very happy bundle of news from Underwire 2012 Award Winner Vicky Prentice this week.
Having your film ‘Storm House’ as one of the award winners of the festival in 2012, what did you take away from the experience of Underwire?
Winning Best Sound Design at Underwire has been a fantastic experience. When you’re trying make your way in the film industry it can be extremely challenging, and it makes such a difference when an organisation like Underwire are not only willing to showcase new work but give support and guidance to filmmakers.
Through Underwire I’ve been put in contact with several directors, and have received some great support from Outpost Sound as part of the mentoring prize. Mainly though, it feels great to get recognition for your hard work and I really feel that the award has helped me to move my career forward.
What have you been getting up to creatively since Underwire?
Since the 2012 festival both Claudia and myself have been approached for several exciting projects as a direct result of being involved in Underwire. We’re currently due to start work on Spring/Summer, the third feature film by writer and director Lisa Gornick.
I’ve also had the chance to work in the videogame industry. I’ve been involved in audio post production at OMUK (http://omuk.com/), which has given me the opportunity to work with many incredibly talented actors, writers and directors. I’ve learnt so much and was even able to help with the recent expansion of the studio. All in all, it’s been a very exciting start to the year.
