We love Sheffield Doc/Fest which kicks off today and runs through to Sunday. It’s an incredible gathering of national and international documentary talent across film and television, where you’re pretty much guaranteed fascinating conversations from dawn till dusk and beyond - plus some rollerskating, dancing and a pussy riot or two!
We’re delighted to be a part of the line-up at the East End Bar this year with our networking afternoon, 3pm-5pm on Thursday. Not only a place to give your eyes a break from the screen and have a natter with some fellow filmmakers about the films and sessions from the day, we are honoured to be joined by the filmmaking team behind the oustanding AFTER TILLER which is screening as part of this years’ Doc/Fest programme and will be screened in London with the East End Film Festival in July.
AFTER TILLER is the extremely moving documentary from filmmakers Lana Wilson and Martha Shane, focusing on the stories of those left behind after the assassination of Dr. George Tiller in Kansas in 2009 – one of the few doctors providing legal third-trimester abortions for women in the USA. A story of people who risk their lives every day for their work, many of whom were close colleagues of Dr. Tiller and now battle to maintain this service in the face of increasing provocation and harassment from the pro-life movement.
We’ll be screening the trailer and talking to Lana and Martha about the journey of making this extremely sensitive and moving piece of work.
